72 Hours

Today I woke up to my best friend asking to stay over tonight. I told her she could, and she responded with, I'm not going to. I can't drive like this.

Later she tells me she will, and not long after that she tells me she loves me.

I knew something was off.

Sometime in there, I texted my twitter: "I feel like Jamie from TWLOHA."

10 minutes after she tells me she loves me, I get a phone call.

"Give me a minute and I'll tell you why I called."
Okay.
"I did it Claire."
-Pause- Did what?
"I took them. 15 sleeping pills."
But why?
"It'll finally be over Claire. Do you remember those letters [teacher] made us write. Well, I got mine when I left [school] and I still haven't read it."
Okay.
"I have it in my car, in the dashboard. I didn't want to read it yet."
-laughter- Okay.
"Here, I'll read it to you."

While she's reading, I get a text from Amber. "How's [person]"
"She just od on 15 sleeping pills."
"Omg, did you call 911"

Then I texted [friend]. "Call 911. [person] just od on 15 sleeping pills."
"Fuck"
"Do it"
"Ok"

Then [friend] called [person] instead of the police and [person] hung up on me.

I called my mom to find out how many sleeping pills you need to kill yourself as I grabbed my home phone and dialed 911 but didn't hit 'send.'

My mom didn't really know what to say so she just told me to call them, and I hit 'send.'

Two rings later and I hear: "police or ambulance?"
Ambulance
"This is 911, what is your emergency?"
My best friend just od on 15 sleeping pills.
"Alright, where do they live?"
[address]
"Okay. Is it [address] township?"
I'm not sure.
"Alright. and you said [address]."
Yes.
"Okay. How do you know that your friend overdosed?"
She called me and told me she loved me and told me she took 15 sleeping pills.
"Okay, what is your friend's name?"
[person]
"How old is she?"
Seventeen.
"Do you know her home phone number?"
They don't have a home phone. They use their cell phones.

"Okay. Do you know if she is alone?"
She might be. I'm not sure.
"Okay, who does she live with?"
Her mother and grandfather.
"Do you know their cell phone numbers?"
No. I don't.
"Okay, can I have your name?"
Claire[last name]
"And your phone number?"
[number] Do you want my cell phone too?
"Sure."
[number]
"Alright. We'll send and ambulance out there right away. If you hear anything else please call 911 again, okay?"
Alright.
"Okay. Thank you."
Yup.
"Bye."
Bye.

I know that after that I started crying. And I went upstairs and sat on my bed.

Then one of the dispatch officers called me at exactly 7pm.

Hello?
"Hi, is this Claire?"
Yes.
"Hi, I'm with the EMS going to get your friend. I don't even know her name. What is it?"
[person]
"[person], okay. We are on our way there, have you talked to her since then?"
I talked to her when she called me and told me she overdosed, but I haven't talked to her since.
"Okay. Do you know if she is at home?"
I think she is. I'm not sure though.
"Alright. Can I have her phone number?"
[number]
"Have you been to her house before and know what it looks like?"
No, I haven't. But it's kinda secluded and there are a lot of trees she said and I think a farm. I'm not really sure.
"Okay. Sometimes that helps us to find the house."
Okay.
"Do you know is she has tried anything like this before?"
On.. Wednesday. She tried to od on ten Advil. Her mom took her to the hospital.
"Okay. Thank you."
Mhmm.
"Well, if you hear anything from her, please call 911 and let us know, okay?"
I will.
"Alright. Thank you. Bye."
Bye.

And so I just waited. I texted [friend] a few minutes later and asked if she was still talking to [person]. She said she was. She told me the ambulance got there, and that [person] started crying.

I'm surprised at how calm I was on the phone, and that I was able to tell him everything. She'll be there for 72 hours, normal for any sucide patient. I can't see her until Wednesday night. I think that she'll be pretty mad at me, but I did what I had to.

[This is a true story. It did just happen today. I didn't change anything, but I did not give out information that you could use to find this person.]
